Bronzart C-46 Commando Cast Metal Desk Model

During WW2, there were many unsung heroes in the Army Air Corps. One of these was the Curtiss C-46 COMMANDO. Originally intended for airline use, the C-46 was a large transport with two engines having enough power as many 4-engine airliners. This made the airplane capable of flying higher than most transports and it was used extensively to fly over "the Hump" or the Himalayan mountain ranges. This took unique fortitude to fly is such a harsh environment where crashing meant being lost forever.

The model is a Bronzart C-46 (XC-46B) with the stepped windshield. This version of the airplane was intended to be promoted back to the airlines after the war ended. Most of the Bronzart C-46 models were finished in a silver/gold paint with national markings. This one has been restored to its original 1944 AAF camo scheme of gray undersides and olive drab for a museum display.
