I went to seven thrift shops today and saw a few nice things but they were charging too much for them so I settled on this modest pot, 7.25" h x 5.25" w. The rim of the pot and interior are glazed. It may be missing a lid? It is not marked but the artist dribbled glaze down the sides in three places and it has a unique carved spiral feature which might help to identify the maker.
What hooked me on this is that you can feel inside the pot where the potter pinched the handles into the body of the pot. I also like the pronounced rim that could be used to tie off a cloth/plastic/wax paper cover to seal the jar.
It is a heavy little pot and I would not want to get hit with it. I think it is the work of an experienced potter, not a school or hobby project, even though it is not marked. I think it is meant to be used, not just looked at. Salt glazed? I noticed that I missed some "Loves" for this piece so took the opportunity to take some new images.
Thanks for the loves iggy, aura, fortapache and blunderbuss2! I think that I will use this to store hazelnuts and acorns in. Starting to toy with pottery for various storage uses.
Belated thanks for loving my pot Jenni and MALKEY!
Thanks SJMC!
