This WPA era mural still stands in the Kingston, PA post office. It depicts a scene of the dominant area industry of the 1930s, that being Anthracite mining.

When first created, one could not miss this mural. But since the recent reduction in size of the Kingston PO, this mural, despite its large dimensions, gets lost within the building’s redo.

Well, at least it was not destroyed during the PO’s reconstruction.

Such works of art were featured in many post offices across the USA during the WPA building spree in The Great Depression Years.post

Beautiful mural, the artist really captured the essence of the hard working miners

Thank you, Newfld....yes the miners had/have a hard lot in life! Notice how the artist depicted the miners in the shaft (on the right) ascending into the light, from the darkness of the mines?

It is a wonderful work of art that I am happy to see preserved.
