Long Story short, my Grandma used to work at the Maple Lane School for Girls when I was a little girl. People donated jewelry to the School and whatever they didn't use, the employee's got to pick a few pieces. My Grandma brought it home thinking it was costume jewelry, so she gave it to me. My MOTHER thought it was real, so she TOOK it from and I didn't get it back until about 2 yrs ago. (I am 52 yrs old)
My Mom took it to a Jeweler in our town and had him look it over. First he told her it was a "godfrey" ring, whatever that means. Second, the diamonds are real and the silver is sterling. I thank God every day that she took that ring from me so many years ago as a young child. BUT, I would like to know a little bit about it. It obviously is not a $10 piece of costume jewelry. If anyone has any knowledge of this ring's design or possibly the creator, I would be very interested to know. I do need the value for the insurance, but I cannot afford to pay for it.
I am not in anyway interested in selling the ring, but it IS unique and would like to know what I am wearing. Thank you now for any help anyone could be:)
Your ring is beautiful. It was most likely made in the late Victorian era. I am confidant the ring is not silver but either platinum or 14k white gold. They would never set diamonds in silver back then. They also would not sign the jewelry back then. It's highly possible that the ring was made in France. Not knowing the karat weight of the diamonds or the total weight of gold or platinum my best estimate would be anywhere between 800-1,200.00 usd. It really is a beautiful ring. Wear it in good health.
