National Shoes Sidewalk Mosaic

This great mosaic once greeted customers to one of The National Shoe Stores, at the corner of S. Main and Northampton Sts. in Wilkes-Barré. PA.

The mosaic still exists, but National Shoes is long gone. This Art-Deco treasure continues to retain its allure, and one can only wonder what it looked like in its prime. The curved windows, now removed on the left and right must have been quite a sight.

The owners following National’s departure have a reasonably good job maintaining this interesting work.
