Found this RED HAT FEEDS sign a few years ago in my favorite picking spot just as it had come into the shop. Approx 4 feet x 2 1/2 feet, white embossed letters with navy blue background. The perimeter is an embossed stepped back edge. Overall it is in very good condition with minor wear. I particularly like the simplicity of the sign. My best guesstimate is that it dates to around 1954. It doesn’t appear that the company was in business for many years. It seems like they may have been in the Virginia area and possibly bought out by Ciba-Geigy or some such. This is one of my favorite signs and I would love to know more about it and the company. Anybody out there knowledgeable on these?

It's a shame we will never know if somebody does, because the new owners of CW don't want to solve the problems.

I have the same exact red hat feed sign that I picked up in Arizona at a small antique store in the middle of nowhere. My sign says A-M Sign co.,Lynchburg,Va.,8-56 which I am assuming it was made August of 1956

Red Hat Feeds was a company in Alabama,a division of Alabama flour mills. They ran a cattle feedlot in 1959 in Decatur, Alabama.

Jimcash, There was a feed mill/feed store in Mesa, Arizona that sold Red Hat Feeds. I seen a picture of the Mill that was taken in the 1960's and it has a Red Hat Feeds sign on the side of the store. I collect Feed Signs and found the picture doing some research.

Much of my family lived in Hartselle and Falkville, just outside Decatur, Alabama. My grandfather was a retired meat inspector. My uncle worked for Red Hat Feeds in the 70s. I REALLY went through my share of Red Hat hats! (LOL - they were my cowgirl hats). I have tons of advertising stuff from them. What wonderful memories!
