For my 300th posting I want to share one of my most historic finds and one that took me years to find after missing out years ago. The quite iconic UC Berkeley "Amerika Is Devouring Its Children" May 1970 Urgent Protest Poster. I have bought a small collection from this single owner and participant in the protests, this is the best of the group.
Vintage Anti War "Street Art" shows Cronus eating his child, was silk screened at UC Berkeley. Size 21 3/4 x 15 inches. Silk screened on scrapped computer program printouts. This is an unusual one in that the back is blank. This street art was meant to be ephemeral and the cheapest medium was used - not thinking such a piece would be so highly collectable nearly a half century later. The point was to make these posters quickly and disperse them quickly. The original owner who was a student there at the time said they were made on the campus and possibly using art department equipment
This strikingly powerful image is a representation of a Goya painting. The spelling of America with a 'K' is a cryptic allusion to the perceived facist government under Nixon.
I was informed there were stacks of these images on the plaza between Kroeber and The College of Environmental Design Located on the upper campus where students would get them free and then post them around the Bay Area.
It's a shame we can't follow responses because the new owners of CW refuse to fix the CW problems. Must be making too much money elsewhere to bother with us.
