This Irish George II table is exactly like the one I own. It was brought to my attention by the Curator of The John D. Rockefeller collection at Kykuit Mansion in New York state.

The first photo is in the Rockefeller collection, which I lightly colored but did not put the yellow in some of the veins of marble. The second photo I see the table to the left of it as the first photo !! Unfortunately because of digital computer, and the computer cannot understand the pixels in the lion's face, and is very difficult to see the incredible crisp and beautiful carving !~

The curators name is Katrina and she had seen my post on Collectors Weekly and she sent me the photo of her matching table to my table, at the beginning of the last week in May 2018. It is exciting to find out that the Kykuit Mansion table is an exact match and came from Tiffany's store in NYC and was purchased in March of 1908 for the mansion. Tiffanys said that it came from the collection of Sir Purdon Clarke. Kykuit curators still had the bill and records of purchase from March 1908 at Tiffanys !!~
There is a wiki article on Sir Purdon and was interesting to note that he was a curator also when they brought him over to NYC to manage some of the met collections !~
We think that probably they were a pair at one time, these type of serving tables usually it seems were carved and made in pairs, however we do not know if they were separated or why now they are not together. Possibly they came from the same owner, and when the estate was sold, someone only wanted or had room for one. Their table now is in the Great Hall at Rockefeller mansion, Kykuit, there since they installed it in their entrance hall in 1908 ! The tables great identical match sits in my living room !~

That's so cool Phil. I'm sure your table has always been very precious and special to you, but to get more history and such provenance is fantastic. Congratulations!

Thank you racer4four, Karen, history is always important in many antiques such as glass and furniture. History is what we strive for after aquiring almost any piece. Love to you,

Kykuit was featured on the A&E series “America’s Castles.” I thought the pic of the house looked familiar. Thanks for sharing your lovely table.

Thanks jscotto, the first pic she must have shook when she pressed the trigger as the carving is much sharper than the pic looks.

Thanks for your interest TimeTraveller. Unfortunately her picture is quite unsharp and the sharpening I did could not help since there was significant shake. The table has very sharp carvings which have been polished to make it smooth to the touch. Unfortunately it is hard to show the incredible workmanship !~

Are you serious Phil??? No, I know you are, about the camera not being able to "see" the lions face clearly... OMG That just answered so many of my questions on why some photos never come out clearly!!! I am stunned and so elated that I was able to be on here tonite so that I got that info!!! And I absolutely love that table! So happy...thank you so much! xoxo

you can say that you have the match to a table bought by the most hated man in america in 1908!
    33. PhilDMorris PhilDMorris, 5 years ago
Thanks ho2cult, yes I imagine he was hated then, but the curator was one of the nicest girls I have ever dealt with. Gotta love her !~
    34. PhilDMorris PhilDMorris, 5 years ago
The digital camera cannot understand the pixels completely when the face in this case is very dark. I noticed too on pictures of red stripes and other patterns, the camera also finds it hard to understand, as sometimes it almost makes you dizzy to see what the camera has almost moving stripes. Its hard to understand unless you see what the camera has done compared to what the eye sees.

Ho2, it belonged to John D. who was hated but the heirs made up for it by becoming great benefactors. They took it on for some of the business transactions that made them so hated, but loved later on from their benefactors generousity !
