For most of his life, Roy Greenaway (1891-1972) was a full-time reporter/photographer for what was then known as the Toronto Daily Star. He was also a prolific painter in his spare time and he was good at it. His works are among the Government of Ontario Art Collection and the City of Toronto Art Collection. Self-taught, he started painting in the 1930s, favouring oil paints. His most common subject matter was Toronto street scenes, but he also painted coastal Quebec scenes, New York City, Venice and England. He also exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy and the Montreal Society of Artists. Greenaway doesn't yet command huge dollars, but he's a talented and noted artist and his paintings range from $300 to $2,000.
