Hello Everyone.
Good Evening from Ontario.2-06-2018.
Here is post 2 of 20 from a book that i found last week, i pick the next etching, from artist " Gustav Meissner" Born 1830-1910
Landscape painter and etcher.Studied in KOENIGSBERG & MUENCHEN. Worked in Berlin, Duesseldorf, Weimar.
THE LAKE IN WOOD, By Gustav Meissner.
We have here a bit of a scenery, pure and unalloyed,-"the forest primeval " We doubt if any man has been here, so peaceful , is it and so unconcerned does the deer seem to be.
What a charm is over the whole scene, and how peaceful are the boles of the lofty-growing trees, doubly outlined as they are by sky and water !
Every sensitive soul loves repose, and Ruskin says that" no work of art can be great without it. " Certainly no landscape, viewed in calm weather, can be what it ought if it does not soothe one by its peacefulness or hush one by its grandeur. Perhaps no poet has loved"gendtle Nature " more truly than Wordsworth, who says :-
"NATURE NEVER DID BETRAY
THE HEART THAT LOVE HER; IT'S HER PRIVILEGE
THROUGH ALL THE YEARS OF THIS OUR LIFE, TO LEAD
FROM JOY TO JOY; FOR SHE CAN SO INFORM
THE MIND THAT IS WITHIM US, SO IMPRESS
WITH QUIETNESS AND BEAUTY, AND SO FEED
WITH LOFTY THOUGHTS, THAT NEITHER EVIL TONGUES,
RASH JUDGMENTS, NOR THE SNEERS OF SELFISH MEN
SHALL E'ER PREVAIL AGAINST US, OR DISTURB
OUR CHEERFUL FAITH THAT ALL WHICH WE BEHOLD
IS FULL OF BLESSING
