This was a $.99 find at a local thrift shop today. It is titled "Old Mill - Le Mans - France" and identified as a watercolor verso, but when I opened it i found out that it is an etching painted in watercolor by Marcel Augis, a pseudonym for French artist H. Dupont. It is about 6" h x 8 w". It appears to be quite toned and there is only a hint of blue left in the sky. There is no visible signature but I found it is titled and signed under the mat outside the plate. Augis is known for selling his etchings to American soldiers during WWI.. It was framed by Hudsons (J T Hudson Company 1881-1998) department store in Detroit, MI.
Wow! Thank you! You helped me identify who made my favorite etching! Mine is signed, but I couldn't read it. I like yours too, and see the resemblance.
Thank you for posting on collectorsweekly!
