Found this crate in a store my wife frequents being used as a display prop. After some persuading to part with it, I was able to buy it. It’s a great old fingerjoint crate that reads “Try Berry Brothers Celebrated Varnishes and Architectural Finishes”. One end proclaims the various company locations and the other end is labeled with the product it contained, “Japan Dryer”. The box measures 27 inches long x 14 inches wide and 11 inches deep and is in generally good condition. The company was founded in the 1860s near Detroit, MI and was still in business in 1925 and after according to what I’ve read. I’m guessing this box dates to around 1900. I would be interested to know more particulars on the age and history of this piece if anyone knows.
