An op shop find from last week, this unusual & subtly coloured vase is made from what looks like about four layers of cased glass. It is a pale, greyish powder blue with grey lines, & a spatter composed of lime green & peach rises up from the base.
The vase measures 21.5 cm tall, 5.5 cm across the top rim, & 4 cm across the base, which is marked Czechoslovakia in silver. Most unusual for a piece of Czech glass from this era found in Australia. Only the second marked piece I've ever found out of all the Tango era glass I've handled & bought over the years.
Is it Welz?
Very interesting find IL, I could not say who made it. It is a beautiful piece of Czech glass. :-)
Many thanks, truthordare...I was so pleased to have found it. I'd already picked up a nice little pair of Victorian vases so this was the icing on the cake.
IronLace - re-categorise it to Bohemian Art glass, as that is what it is, rather than just Art Glass.
It has a Welz look - 'stripes and spots' Craig will certainly have a better idea on maker.
Although it bears a resemblance to Welz production, I can not say for sure if it is theirs. I do not recognize the shape, and the decor is a little different. Great piece though... Love the shape!
Nice find IL! Clearly a better level of oppie you frequent!
Cheers philmac51, have just re-categorized it. Yes, I thought the stripes & spots decor was a touch Welz - like, but different from the usual.
Many thanks for your thoughts, welzebub. Thought this one was a bit of a puzzle myself!
Thanks also, racer...I shall give away my secret - the Salvos at Tempe, aka Tempe Tip. It was always good, but has just had a makeover & the stuff there is better than ever. On that same day I got a pair of small Victorian enameled vases, a fun coffee mug & a cool designer shirt. :-)
Very kind of you! I may get there from out in the west sometime.
It will be well worth the trip...there is just so much glass of all kinds. Even if you don't score any vitreous treats, there's loads of other good stuff - clothes, books, furniture, & random odds & sods.
simply fabilus and what a find may the luck be with you

I have a piece very similar in shape but different color. I believe mine to be Welz. Regardless a beautiful piece
Many thanks MALKEY, the luck is flowing that's for sure, & I'll send it back to you with kind regards.
Thanks also for your thoughts, Glasstronaut. Do you have a photo of your similar vase for comparison?
very good piece, It has the mark that zippers and some glue chip has... the methods of making it are similar to Welz but the rim is not right. the colors are not right and lastly the lines are spiraling a bit and Welz lines don't spiral
for me all these things make it more desirable
Many thanks for your thoughts, kralik1928, & so it seems this one is a bit out of left field, which is just fine by me!
