I suppose every collector searches for the one item that will be the centerpiece of their collection. I found mine. Recently a friend and fellow collector and I came to an agreement for the transfer of ownership. It is a very large salesman demonstrator of a remotely operated automatic gate. It unlatches, opens, and closes, and latches. It can also be ratcheted up to clear obstructions in its path, such as snow. It can be folded up for transport. Fully extended it is 50" wide x 26" deep x 12" tall. I am in the process of cleaning, fabricating, and replacing parts that are rusted or broken. Stay tuned as I will post photos of the finished product when the repairs are complete.
The gate was patented by Willaim W. Wert, of Ithica, Ohio June 16, 1896, patent no. US562105A.
Restored June 2018. Photos 1 & 2.
