My girlfriend and I purchased this at a garage sale today, the person said he had purchased it about 30 years ago in Middlebury, IN. On the underside picture, you can see it is No. 83 made by Levi Miller of Millersburg, OH. We would love to learn more of this furniture maker, as we have fallen in love with this particular piece of furniture he has made.

Luv these rockers! You can even still buy them! http://www.cabinplace.com/hhhickoryrockingchair.htm; This one is in really good shape for 30 years old. My parents have a couple that they bought in the 70's and aren't shiny any more because they sat on the front porch for long time. Even borrowed one to rock my babies when they were little. My parents bought them because they were placed around Laurelville Mennonite Church Camp in Pennsylvania and we loved them. Spent plenty of time rocking and talking in those chairs.

You live in a great area. My wife and I just got back from Middlebury, IN. Had to get the camper fixed at the Jayco factory. Had a great time and would like to go back and take more time there. I'd like to take in the auction in Shipshewana on rt 5 or Van Buren Street at the flea market.

You are lucky to have a Levi Miller chair. I used to buy from him at his shop in Millersburg. I have never seen bentwood rockers built as well as Levi's. (I am currently sitting in #35 built in 1989. He had buyers from the east coast trying to buy his chairs by the hundred, but he would only sell them one to a customer. One year wait. His shop was very interesting and uniquely Amish modern. all of his equipment was either hydraulic or air driven, but he still built in the old way. Still the only bentwood I have used that doesn't creak. He was the best.....
