Found this in an old barn. Any idea what it’s purpose was? It has a chopping blade, hook, and indentation. The 1800’s farm had animals and raised crops. I’m more interested in it’s purpose than value.

These were issued to U.S. troops around WWII. I don't remember a "D" guard. They are also a type of cane knife. I hope another member can give a more detailed answer. No markings ?
G.I. issue "Woodsman's Pal". "D" guard is correct.
Thanks blunderbuss2, you were exactly correct. I've been researching the "Woodsman's Pal" and find its history fascinating. Also have started refurbishing the blade. It's soaking in vinegar at the moment. I'll get it back to a usable condition and it'll become one of my camping tools. Thanks again, blunderbuss2.
I have seen similar that were used to cut sorghum cane in SW Missouri
