Kurata made this form of vase in a number of decors, including a plain white pearlised one which seems the most common.
I like this green one best, green glass being a big fave of mine.
The decor is based on a green clear glass base with white glass swirled through it. A clear case has been added and then moulded, and the lip has been hand worked to finish. It has then been lightly iridised.
Typical of Kurata it is exceptionally well made. I cannot find any evidence of mould lines, and this shape would have required at least a three piece mould. The shape is actually quite complex, with the ribs thinning and flattening to the lip, and the bumps on the ribs having small indents on the end. The base has been pontil ground and polished.
This vase is well used with a very scuffed base and some light marks here and there. Very lovable still.
