These early CAT images are very hard to find.

This one features a child holding her cat in a dated Civil War era carte de visite.

The photograph is by Jacob Shew of San Francisco, California. The stamp cancellation dates the image to 6 FEB 1865-- still a few months to the end of the Civil War.

The girl has done an admirable job of holding the cat still.

Her eyes must have been a bright blue! Amazing to see the cat as well and what about that stamp? It looks off center, is it worth anything???
    12. scottvez scottvez, 6 years ago
Thanks passion. I agree she must have had bright eyes.

The revenue stamp just aids in dating an image. Some of the stamps are collectible and will increase the value of an image. Here are a couple of earlier postings that highlite some basic info on the revenue stamps:

i love this photo too! but i can't help but suspect she may have turned into a crazy cat lady. i hope that i'm not being disrespectful, but i get that feeling each time i see her!
    15. scottvez scottvez, 6 years ago
Yep-- she certainly may have gone that route cultcha!
