Tsugaru Vidro have been making glass around 100 years in Japan, albeit under different names. They are in Aomori prefecture, close to the Tsugaru Strait between Honshu and Hokkaido.
This large vase is a classic design for Tsugaru. It is a traditional shaped vessel with ribs, flattened to a slight ovoid shape, and with a small flared neck and added foot. It is made from clear glass with two secondary glass gathers of green and light blue, overlapping each other but not entirely covering the clear body. The added foot is from blue glass.
Tsugaru have long used the second gather technique on their glass, and the colours of the gathers represent the seas around Tsugaru. The green is known as Tsugaru green, as the sand from the beaches of Aomori, originally used to make net floats, resulted in glass of this unusual colour.
Although it is contemporary there is lots of tradition in this piece.
It is quite large: height: 24cm width: 29cm

THIS! Like a jump in the water! So refreshing and beautiful.

I have finally gotten a pc that actually works...YAY!!! It's the 3rd one. And when I bought them they were not open boxed or refurbished, just junk! So now I'm getting this one up to date while I sit here with my foot up because I have 3 broken toes and if I move again from one room to the other, I'm sure I'll have another broken one soon! haha I swear...Why oh why was there ever a person called Murphy and why is this person requesting me to continually add chapters to his stupid book??? I don't think I care much for that man! ;) But I do miss you. And now with all my newfound delays, it looks like I have more catching up to do in other places but I will try to pop in to see you as much as I can. I miss being on here. I am amazed at just how much I continue to learn every time I come on! I now have to go back and see your dragonfly brooch!!! Love, love that piece!
