I have had this pin for a while, today I did a little research on the coin, to be honest I just love the old leather case and it was the reason I bought this pin.
This is a two Anna silver coin from India, the date 1897 which was the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria who was at the time Empress of India. I've researched this coin and I really don't understand why it was made into a Pin the reason being is that it is far less then a Rupee, the case definitely fits the Pin. The leather case is beautifully made as you can see from the photo. I hope someone out there might have knowledge, there was two places where these coins were minted, Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) this coin I think was minted in Calcutta.

    Many thank for looking

I like the case very much, it's very pretty. I also like coins re-purposed as jewelry.

Thank you Tigra, yes the case is a beauty and in such good condition for its age.

      Interesting!
The coin was made into the pin because of the date, as you said, Diamond Jubilee year.
Many jubilee pieces were made with coins, it was an easy and cheap way to wear one :-)
The case is older, from 1850 era! These domed boxes are becoming rather expensive now...

Hi kyra, yes I thought the coin was probably a momento from diamond jubilee. As I said I just love the leather case and coming from the 1850s it makes it more splendid. I honestly thought they were a pair as the pin fits so well. Thank yet again for your help.
