I have some Frito Bandito items that were premiums in Fritos in the late 60's and early 70's. This little guy altered the Cielito Lindo lyrics from "Ay ya yai canto no llores" to "ay ya yai I am the Frito Bandito" for an entire nation until this very day. Admit it, you didn't know the actual words or title. I didn't, I had to google it! He was a game changer. Gringos still ask the mariachi bands to sing the Frito Bandito song on Cinco de Mayo.
He's recently become newsworthy again since being separated from his ninos at the border last week. So let's celebrate some of his collectables.
First picture is the pencil eraser. The tan one seems to be the most common. They were about five other colors. I couldn't tell you which is harder to find of them.
Next is the larger pinback.
A smaller one is pictured last.
There are some other premiums Burpee Seeds(!?), wanted poster etc.
Sadly political correctness has eliminated him and Speedy Gonzales. Ay caramba!
Remember, give him Frito Corn Chips and he'll be your friend......the Frito Bandito you must not offend. Sing along everybody!
The eraser is adorable, love his sombrero
Mucho gracias,
Senor Bill
I hear that Cinco de Mayo fals on the 5th, next year. LOL ! Brought a Canadian girlfriend for her 1st visit to the States, and when she saw a Taco Bell in Miami, she said, "Look, the Cubans have their own telephone system!" TRUE !
LOL!!! I know some Canucks, but they've been in the states since they were kids.
