My mom received this as a wedding gift in 1959. It is Anchor Hocking but it does not appear in a price guide for 1959-?. Could it be earlier? Someone’s suggested it’s a made item bc the base looks exactly like a boopie candlestick. But my mom received it new and I have recently found and bought two more and have seen pics of others online that were already sold. Any info is appreciated!
yes, it is made by combining a plate and candlestick. this is fairly common with cake stands; tho' the pairing is most often glued together rather than mechanically fastened.
TallCakes - all three that I now have in my possession have the exact same attachment mechanism that allows them to spin. And, my mom received it NEW as a wedding gift from her best friend's mom. Where would something like this have been sold back in 1959? Also, we live in Ohio, home of Anchor Hocking. Couldn't it be that it was a test item or an item only sold locally by AH? I'm trying to find a published resource on AH glass of that period but have not been able to get my hands on one yet. Thanks for your input!
now that you mention the rotating connection it is likely done that way by Anchor Hocking, as they have made various lazy susan type of pieces over the years. The late 1950s is probably correct with the introduction of this pattern. I have a Spin-A-Cake by Consolidated from about the same time.
Thanks! I should have mentioned it in the first place as that is the key feature! LOL!
