By now most of you know I love Rebel items, especially vehicles. Here's my favorite slot car of all time. It's a limited edition L 88 Corvette that was done up in a beautiful Rebel paint scheme 1/32 scale by Scalextric. The real car was painted Ferrari Red was numbered 57 and raced with a "sister" car # 48. It was a popular car and a track winner. The L 88 came out of the showroom rated at 430 hp. That's pretty impressive, but adding headers and different heads increased it to 585 without any internal mods! The second picture is a photo of the actual car so you can compare the outstanding job Scalextric did. It's a work of art. This car awept the GT wins in Florida in 1972 scoring 8th overall at Daytona and 4th overall at a Sebring International race. The sister car #48 with John Greenwood/Dick Smothers(yes, THAT Dick Smothers of the Smothers Brothers) won the Gt class at Sebring in '71. The car was street legal! This was a beast of a machine that was beautiful. Scalextric gets an A++ from me for accurately rendering this beauty.
Yes that is a pretty good likeness.
It hard for me to get a close up Apache, but it's amazing how every sponsor "sticker", minor details etc. are done. I'd like to see some of the other Scalextric limited editions. I think they're an affiliate of Hornby, that would explain their dedication to achieving exactness.
