Wendy Orlean Williams was her actual given name - people called her WOW. She was the ideal front for the artistic vision of promoter/producer Rod Swenson. The Plasmatics were a band designed to be loud, shocking, and confrontational. Though the band quickly disintegrated in a series of personality disputes, they managed to put out three albums in this configuration. The first two (shown here) have some of the most exciting rock'n'roll to come out of the late 1970s. The music is somewhere on the border between Punk and Heavy Metal but as Rod and Wendy understood - it's all about the show.
I like the cover art, and it's a very cool piece of vinyl.
She had a bit of a metallic style voice I think?
Wendy gave her all for rock'n'roll. By the time The Plasmatics called it quits she was getting weekly treatments from a throat specialist. This did nothing to deter the developing Metal scene. She is regarded as a pioneer.
Cuts from the first album seem to be non-existent on YouTube - it really is the best material and worth seeking out. Songs like "Corruption" or "Dream Lover" are sure to stick to your consciousness.
Oh Wendy O!
