This is an interesting one! spotted it online last week, and bought it with very little info. It came in a frame, which I have removed. It was padded in the frame by a yellowing bit of newspaper, which my husband kindly dated for me from the sports news as 1966! But the plaque or more likely a tile, is much older than that. It isn't marked Wedgwood, but I've checked the figures (Muses) with pictures in my Wedgwood book, and they are identical to Wedgwood Muses. I think Wedgwood made tiles to go in Fireplaces etc, and I think this is probably what this is, as it's a bit rough for a plaque. Havn't found one like it yet, so not sure on date, but I would think 19th century. It's 7 3/4 " long and 4" wide
Its a nice blue but not a cobalt blue, a lot of times they just call it a Wedgewood blue. Love it !~
I think Wedgwood blue is the light blue! This is the darker early blue which I call cobalt blue, but it could be just dark blue.
Gorgeous!
Beautiful! Makes me think of antique morpho butterflywing jewelry :)
