I rescued this today at an estate sale. I thought it was native American and it seems to be. I think it's an older piece. It's about 10 inches in diameter. I love it. Where's it from and how old? Who made it?

It's African, from Bostwana. A variation of the traditional Botswana "Forehead of the Zebra" pattern. The color changes taking place in the light cream area are an indication that it was probably made since the 1960's.

That's "Botswana," not "Bostwana." Sorry for the typo.

Thanks! I definitely knew it was hand made and some of the stiches came apart and I can see a bunched grass or something that's inside the stiches. I'm not sure of the proper words. The black is fading and the cream I just thought was dirty because it looks like actual dirt is embedded in it. Maybe it's not grass, but some sort of skinny plant stem. Would it be wrong to use as fruit basket? Or should is it one of those things that deserves preservation? I didn't know for sure when I got it if I would use it, it was going to based on it's rarity.
