These 8"H x 4 3-4"W heavyweight rearing horse glass bookends were a popular item with several glass companies including Imperial, Fostoria and Heisey from the 60s-90s. The distinguishing features of these Smith models are the bumpy beaded mane and 8" height. Body ruby & red-orange with gold streaks, nose and mane. By the LE Smith Glass Co of Mt Pleasant PA, founded 1907
Lovely bookends, Jenni!
Never seen these, just getting into the American glass vintage pieces, love this pair, very impressive. :-)
Ken that's such a great compliment, I too was a bit dazzled by these particularly the red amberina color, and I always double check the CW past posts to be sure it's not a repeater (there are other rearing horse bookends here, but not by Smith nor this color)
Super compliment Thomas, I'm really glad you enjoyed my horses
MrsT they are really strong glass bookends & I'm glad they can be useful beyond just pretty glass, as I'm a huge book reader (can't do the e-books, too much screen staring hurts my eyes), thanks for the kind words
I really enjoy your glass collection truthordare, and am very happy that you liked these, American art glass made some pretty nice pieces especially animals, however finding them can be difficult (I refer to books and see if a vintage item I like is floating around the 'net, I'm often out of luck), thanks for the kind compliments
Eileen, Ms red lover, I knew these would catch your eye! So glad you liked them, I actually did try to photograph them in stronger sunlight but there was too much black shadowing in the glass, so I settled for early daylight. Appreciate your great words as always
Many thanks everyone for loving my horses

Fire horses!!! These are stunning book ends!
They are rather flaming red at that Lauren, thanks for the super compliment and the love, glad you liked them
Haha- I have two book ends kinda similar- there of two blue ceramic horse heads...water ponies I suppose?! :D
Lauren the blue horse head bookends sound so pretty, I hope you will post them in future
I just bought a pair of these in brown glass a couple of weeks ago. I like the red ones better! I have a New Martinsville pair in Crystal that similar.
BTW, not sure what kind of e-reader, you use but I've found using the blue shade setting on my Amazon Fires is really helpful to prevent eye strain. I've also experimented with different brightness and contrast settings. Sometimes books are just more aesthetically pleasing, though.
Thanks kwqd for your very nice comments! The rearing horse bookends are so impressive and nice to own, good luck finding your New Martinsville ones I'm sure they're lovely. I really appreciate the advice on using the blue shade setting onscreen I will try that, however yes I am a little "old school" and enjoy reading books - which is also hard on the eyes lol!
Greatly appreciate the love kwqd and aura, many thanks
