I've never seen a piece like this by Bernard Instone before luckily it came my way so it's a great addition to my collection.
As you can see it is beautifully enamelled in pearly White overlaid with blue on the trailing feathers of the wings, and very lovely detail on the eyes, beak and legs. It’s a large brooch measuring approx 6cm by 6cm, at the back it is marked silver and B.I.
As I have said above I have never seen work like this from Bernard Instone so no idea of age, it maybe a commission piece but I'm really in the dark with this one.
Many thanks for looking
Fantastic seagull, gorgeous & so realistic
Awwww thank you Newfld, yes I do have to say it’s a realistic seagull, I knew he did enamel work but nothing like this brooch. I’ve never seen anything like this done by Bernard Instone, he was such a talented man.
Agreed, he was super talented, love your Instone pieces. - Jenni
Thank you Jenni :-))))
Before click to enter in this post, I knew it was your piece by the first picture, absolutely wonderful, congratulations to add this one to your collection.
So lovely Jean! He certainly made a wide variety of items didn't he!:-) )
Hi Alan, you probably recognize the photo because I usually have some type of green back ground, this photo was taken in London. Yes this is a completely different piece I have never seen anything from him in this type of enamelling. Thank you Alan for your comment.
Hi Judy, I’m always wondering what I’ll find next, I suppose that’s what makes him so interesting. Really appreciate the comment :-)))
Awwww thank you Ken, I really appreciate your comment. I think this brooch is something special by Instone I would love to know its history.

Ive just found your post, although it’s 2 years old, as I think I have a brooch the same as yours.
I had to join to comment, can’t see how to add a photo.
Hi Lindacullum, if you want to add a photo you have to do it on your own post, I would love to see it.
