It’s hard to believe that this is a custom replica light up clock about 20 years old . The seller was honest and explained it was made over 20 years ago by a gentleman that made less than 50 of these clocks. It measures 24" across and 7" deep, with the total width being 36" when you include the outer advertising are. It appears to even have the trade mark in the glass.
The 3rd picture is the real deal taken from ebay back in 2014. ...40 bids and all. Plus offialfuel has the real deal also.
The hands are the wrong color and also the numbers should be green. But other then that it looks really well handcrafted.
I hesitate to Love any repro's or as you say replica as they are flooding the market and I'm now seeing sellers trying to sell repro's for what the real deals are worth.
EJW-54...I totally agree with you. I just got back from a Maggie Valley oil / gas expo. There were a few repro’s with dates on them like 1947 Mobil shield sign. $40 but I was told that it sold and another guy put a tag on it as original and the price went sky high. This is going to kill the collector market for gas and oil signs. Coke has its own fakes out there. But at least we have references guides the petroleum signs really don’t. I posted this to help people realize there are these coke clocks to watch out for.
The coke clock seller admitted it was a replica but still wants $2400 . That’s insane IMO
Thanks Coke1234 for posting this so we learn. I don't think i have been fooled yet but its getting harder to tell with those aged repro's. I'm afraid your right it could kill the gas and oil market. I e-mailed two e-bay sellers about them trying to sell repro Sunoco oil Bottles for $135 and $155, one replied "thankyou, I'll look into it" the other one responded "So What! Repro's are selling for big money! I didn't say it was real! " But the sekller listed it as Original instead of Reproduction!!
Ebay in the old days would give out phone #’s even if you didn’t buy from them. I have warned people that they bought a $900 fake and they got their money back. Can’t do that anymore. Me and another guy used to post info on ebay about fake coke porcelain signs from India years ago. At the time it seemed like it didn’t do much good so we stopped the practice. Those coke signs from India today don’t fetch the money they used to. Ok enough ranting. See ya.
Very cool....
