Here is a real neat item from the gas-light era. It is an antique tool used to light gas lamps. It combines a valve-key for turning on the gas with wax-covered wick for lighting the lamp. The length of the tool would make this easier for the user to reach the lamp. It measures 30" long including handle.
Picture shows the end of the tool, you can see the shape of the end for turning the gas valve.
Handle is wood, upper part is tubular brass. The wick would have been the length of the entire brass part. The wick tube holds the wick and is moved to advance wick as it burns down.
Does anyone know the value of something like this?
There is one listed on eBay for $27.50. Item # 193218603320
