A small device all in metal similar to a car feeler guage for spark plug gaps. This is a device for measurements found over a screw thread over a known set distance.
Engineering. Not all collectables have to large, slighlty bigger than a UK 10 pence coin,
"Thread gauge" for telling you what thread count you are working with. S.A.E. is threads per inch and metric is called "pitch" for number of threads per cm..
This looks like it may be for Whitworth threads. Whitworth was invented by the Lime's to prove to the rest of the wold that they could come up with a screw system that would baffle the world !
British screws were the best in the world, nothing like a good screw..... hey blundbuss2!
In my experience, they're good, but German & Swed have been better. The Whitworth is supposed to be the strongest.
