I've got issues 104, 105, 11o and 112 of DC's GI Combat to share today. They're from 64-65 and feature The Haunted Tank stories. I read many different comics in the 60's, but some of my favorites were the DC war comic titles. Among them GI Combat was my favorite because it featured The Haunted Tank series.
The Haunted Tank was a M3 Stuart tank that had the ghost of Confederate Cavalry General J.E.B. Stuart assigned by the spirits of famous commanders in history to watch over this particular tank and its crew, especially the tank commander who was named Jeb Stuart of all things. The series was created by Robert Kanigher(editor/writer) and Russ Health(artist) in 1960. The series ran for 27 years. It had refreshing original story lines and great art by Heath, Joe Kubert(Sgt. Rock) and later Sam Glanzman. Only Jeb Stuart, the tank commander, could see and converse with the ghost of General J.E.B. Stuart( seems logical). Usually the ghost of the general would appear with a cryptic message of forthcoming events for his namesake. It was a pretty good premise and was respected by fans and critics.
The first comic has cover art by Russ Heath, the rest are by Joe Kubert and stories by Robert Kanigher. I got my first GI Combat(#99) in a trade and was immediately hooked! I read a bunch of them, what a great time to be a kid then.
Thanks for dropping in,

Thanks Apache.
Thanks Newfld and Iggy.
Did Sergeant Rock have his own comic? These are really great.
These were very cool. I enjoyed them.
Sgt Rock were the best.
I found a couple of these comics in my uncles things dated 1971.
Caperkid, Sgt. Rock was the main feature of the DC title "Our Army at War" starting in issue 81, 1959. The title was later changed to Sgt. Rock, I think in the 70's. Rock was no doubt the favorite and the best selling if the DC war comics. I read most of the DC war stuff Capt. Storm, Gunner and Sarge, Johnny Cloud etc. Thank you all, I'm pleased to see y'all enjoyed the DC war stuff also.
