This is contemporary studio pottery, fired in a wood-fired or anagama kiln. Although there are very few anagama kilns in the U.S., and it's not unusual for one to be fired only once a year, there are thousands of potters who are able to fire some pots in the firings, and some of the anagamas are huge. So it's going to be difficult to determine the identity of the potter.
The anagama kiln comes from Japan, and has its roots in Korean, Chinese, and Japanese pottery, but didn't exist in the U.S. until the late 1970s. You might try seeing if there is an anagama kiln in your state, or nearby, and start there, if you want to try to identify the potter.
Or you might try posting this in the general Pottery category, since it isn't related at all to Native American pottery.
