Picked up this Route 66 sign over the weekend. It's made of aluminum and dated 1934. Can anyone tell me if this is authentic? I know the sign has probably been repainted, it measures approximately 19" x 19".

I think authentic route 66 signs from the mid 1930's would be much more likely of stamped steel construction, especially ones with glass 'cats eye' reflectors. Cast iron would be less likely but maybe still possible. Cast aluminum hasn't ever really been a common road sign material...maybe the "1934" on your sign is a part number, or reference to an original iron (?) sign which was re-molded/cast...?

I found this link from a few years ago for a sign just like mine. Still trying to figure out the exact age and a value for this sign.

The stamped number on mine is 135741. So I would think that is a serial number for the sign?
