A couple of recent little finds from op shops...
The squat, highly iridescent, peacock - feather hued, pulled loop vase is fine quality modern studio glass with an Art Nouveau flavour. It measures around 6 cm tall, 3.2 cm across the top rim, & 2.5 cm across the base. It is signed underneath, but in an indecipherable scrawl. However, I think I can see "97" next to the name, which starts with an S & appears to have 4 or 5 letters. Maybe someone recognises the artist's style?
The tiny clear vase with cornflower - blue filigree stripes is of the Bimini - Lauscha style, so I suppose 1920s or so. It measures 6 cm tall, 3 cm across the crimped top rim, & 2.5 cm across the base. It is feather - light.
Both look right at home posing with a small wonder of the floral world - violets.
I think I may have an ID for the artist - after an eBay search on "Australian studio art glass vase", I found a piece in a similar style, with a signature very like the one on mine...so I think the maker may be Sean O'Donohue. That vase, only 3.5 cm taller, is listed for $225. Mine was $6... :-)
Nice one IronLace!! Love a bargain!! Both great finds!
Many thanks, Justanovice!
Yes, bargains are magical! Wishing them to you too...
What beautiful pictures, IronLace - your glass looks so lovely with the violets in their natural home! :)
Thanks so much, Michelle...it will be a nice memory of this garden as I am moving on in the near future...to a new home where I plan to grow many more violets...
Your photos may out-malkey MALKEY if you continue in this vein :) Lovely glass too!
That is a simply massive compliment, sklo42! I am blushing! :-)
There is more fab glass coming soon, I shouldn't be buying more when I have to move soon, but life's to short to turn down special finds when they crop up...
Little Bimini vases like this are very cool - you're going to make me want to start looking for them too.
So beautiful!
Lovely!
artfoot, I totally understand the Bimini thing - I actually had some other examples that I sold some time back. This one I found for $2 & I like it best out of all the Bimini I've owned, because of the cornflower blue stripes...
Many thanks, Mrstyndall!
Thanks also, Starrynight!
It's very Sean O'Donohue in style, he loved iridescence. Such a lovely piece, reat price!
The violet looks so sweet with the Bimini.
Thanks for your thoughts, racer...I am no expert on modern glass, so I shall value your opinion very much! :-)
Yes, I'd been admiring my wee crop of violets scattered about the garden the day before, & when I decided to take pics of these vases, inspiration struck! They had to be posed in the "landscape"...
