This is a very ornate little jar or vase! It’s marked ‘SATSUMA’ on the bottom, and I know it’s not authentic. Raised gilt and enamel, brightly coloured flowers and butterflies, cobalt glazing. I’m trying to determine it’s age, and/or where it may have been manufactured, if not China?

Your best identification tool with Satsuma is about the type of ceramic used, here it is white porcelain, which usually indicates China, if it was pottery the pale yellow Japanese type, then of course it would be Japan. Nice piece.

Are they still making this kind of porcelain stuff in China? I’m trying to pin down a timeframe. Thx!
