    WW2 SHORT SNORTER 1943 LCDR (Dr.) Grenhart 1935A Silver Certificate + 2 Pacific

    Labeled on the US $1 Note: "Short Snorter GWG 3/3/1943”

    GWG - George W. Grenhart

    3 Bills - US 1935A $1 Silver Certificate, Australian 10 Shillings, $1 Note from one of the islands during the flight. Over a foot long!

    Per his personal history this SHORT SNORTER was signed during his flight from Hawaii to other islands in the Pacific and Australia.

    Mar. 1943 Sailed from SF to Hawaii
    Flew from Hawaii to the islands of Palmyra Canton Suva Numea New Caledonia and Brisbane Australia

    This item has been removed from Dr. George Grenhart's personal war time scrapbook. Commissioned in the US Navy June 11, 1942 as a LCDR as he volunteered as a sorely needed Medical Doctor. He left the service after the war with the rank of Commander.

    I have captured his personal timeline as he write it in his scrapbook:

    July 1942 Bureau of Medicine & Surgery Washington DC
    Received orders for duty in Pacific Area
    Feb. 1943 Left DC for San Francisco
    Mar. 1943 Sailed from SF to Hawaii
    Flew from Hawaii to the islands of Palmyra Canton Suva Numea New Caledonia and Brisbane Australia
    April 1943 Returned to DC
    June 1943 Transferred to Philadelphia Naval Shipyard
    Oct. 1943 Reported to Lido Beach as Senior Medical Officer of G-7 Unit
    Nov. 1943 Sailed on HMS Queen Elizabeth for European Theatre of Operations
    Nov 1943 Arrived Scotland Proceeded to Penarth Wales
    Aug 1944 Returned to USA via USS Argentina
    Jan. 1945 Reported aboard USS Anacostia
    Feb. 1945 USS Anacostia Commissioned (the good Dr. Is now a plankowner)
    1945 Arrived Pearl Harbor
    USS Anacostia delivered AvGas to Okinowa (under fire)
    Trips to Saipan, Kanoya Japan. Took five days leave and flew to Tokyo.
    Ordered home via USS Benevolence/San Francisco and on to New York

    Released from Active Duty December 21st, 1945 CDR (Dr.) George W. Grenhart
