Trying to find out the type of dresser, thinking the handles and top design would be a clue. Some assistance needed please.

Nice looking chest of drawers/dresser. Is there hardware, etc., to show that a mirror was once attached? You don't mention if the dresser is marked or not.... The maker might be a clue. Sometimes the top drawer has the maker's name stamped, burned, etc., into the side panels of the drawer. Looks like all of these drawers are the same dimension, so I would check them all, if you haven't already. Are the side panels dovetailed into the drawer front or do they use some other type of joinery?
Took a closer look and it does look like the top drawer is smaller than the others....
yes it is, and yes they are dove tailed
I do believe it used to have a mirror, but no longer. I'm thinking it's an oak dresser but not really great at ID'ing wood.
Not oak -- maybe cherry, maple, or another similarly close-grained wood.
The pulls are indeed interesting. (and might give a clue to its maker/age, I don't know?) It looks like the ones on the 2nd drawer down are mounted backwards compared to the others, I wonder why??
ya we noticed that, I was thinking of changing them back, my guess is someone had them apart and put it back together wrong
Style looks like something from the 1950s, so not an antique yet.
Additional photos of the drawer joints and the back should confirm.

I agree with scottvez on the age date. Looks like maple which was really popular in the 50's. Best called vintage I would say.
It is a Vilas mens dresser. I have the whole set made of rock maple. I have the ladies dresser, mirror, bed frame, mens dresser, bed side table and book case

SeanB, can you tell me what the bed looks like? When I was 5 my grandmother gave me a short post 4 poster bed, because I didn't have one at my house. I was with her 90% of the time but kindergarten jacked that up. Anyway she gave me the bed and a vanity. There's only 1 existing pic of the bed but I remember the drawer pulls were wood like that and matched the tall dresser she kept. I'm just assuming they were a set. Fingers crossed. Long and short despite excessive begging and crying because it was my most prized possession that my granny gave me and in my mind it was the one thing she couldn't take away. I was wrong. I was 12 when she posting a moving sale everything must go Friday and Saturday all day. Then she left and went to work (she got her check sat) and left a 12 year old and 10 year old home to attend to all these strangers coming to buy all out worldly possessions. Biggest problem was the reason she said I couldn't take it was because it wouldn't fit in the little uhaul. Truth was that my bed and vanity were the only thing "we" that was the word she used.. had that was worth any money. So the first lady that asked how much I thought I'd be slick and price it so high nobody would buy it. Course to a 12 year old then $20 was a lot of money. Anyway I blurted out firmly $600!!! I just hope she didn't see the pee trickle down my leg when she said, "okay, I'll take it." I am 41 years old... I left home (for obvious reasons) at 16 and have been searching almost daily since to try and find another one since I have no hope of finding the orginal cause she didn't move across town... it was 1500 miles. That dresser is the very first piece I've seen that looks like its matching dresser and vanity with those wooden pulls. The bed my Granny called cherry but might not have been. It was a full. With short fat what I would call half cannonball post tops. It had a blanket rail and the head board very basic. The only design was the shape of the top of the head board. I can only describe it as a wave pattern shape to the top of the head board but aside from the waves, all same size... the headboard went straight across. Does that sound anything like your bed??? If I even knew the maker I'd be miles ahead. Dr lori V told me it was likely 1920's later part and probably made in Michigan. It IS NOT waterfall. Any help would be so appreciated. I won't lie I've gotten discouraged and given up for periods of time but am on the hunt stronger than ever. My granny turned 90 in September and it just kills her knowing how much that hurt me. Forget whatever she paid for it. I'd just like for her to see me able to replace her gift in her lifetime.

I am not sure if the catalogs are still archived online or not but Montgomery Ward sold these in the 1950's. There was a chest of drawers like this, a dresser with I think 9 drawers and a bed.
