I acquired this beautiful vase from a consignment store that was mispriced and not in their inventory due to employee errors and I wound up paying $16.38 for it. It is a large vase by the Ojibwe artist Jikiwe (also known as Ed Gray) composed of pit fired clay, horsehair, and copper. It is reminiscent of Japanese raku pottery. I was thrilled to discover this little gem and the store’s mistake turned into a triumph of discovery for me. The artist is retired now, and it is difficult today to acquire pieces that he created. But I’m elated that I managed to acquire and display this piece in my home.
