I found this desk at an estate sale and I’m not sure whether it’s worth the effort as it is quite heavy and needs a lot of work. Any thoughts from this knowledgeable audience?

Heavy is a good sign of quality. Refinishing is not cheap, but it looks like good aged mahogany.

Well it certainly has some hybrid cobwebs. The pictures aren't so great and you can't see the top or inside drawers. From what I can see this would clean up with a hand rub with 4 "0" steel wool and mineral spirits to clean it then another rub down with spirits on a rag to clean the dust. Then give it a twice over and see what you have. Probably be ready for a polish.
