This item has been hanging in my shed for many years and I have no ides what it is for. It is stamped Brace, Windel & Blyth company. I googled this to find they were leather merchants, saddlers and coach ironmongers. This item is 5 inches long by 2 3/4 inches high. It opens as per photo and has three short split rivets in the holes which might have attached it to leather.
I have seen more modern versions of a thing like this which had two of the hooks mounted about 3" apart on a board, and which worked in tandem. The clip-board-like device was hung on the wall and invoices, purchase orders, and the like, could be hung on it by means of pre-punched holes in the sheets. That way they could be removed and/or replaced, or flipped through as necessary in the course of operating a business. Essentially a document storage system.
I see where you're coming from UncleRon but this seems to be a bit outside what this company made. The rivets which are still in place are so short I think they were attached to leather rather than any type of board and what would the circular part above the two rivet holes be for?
I figured the circular part was to hang on a hook. As for the rivets, they don't look right to have been used to attach it to a backing like a clip board unless it was quite thin. Just brainstorming an area for further research.

Once again UncleRon's logical approach has worked. I would not have figured that one out. Thanks also to Tallcakes, Windwalker, bobby725, and all of you who looked in.
