Nice paper covered trunk from around 1870’s to 80’s. I would refinish this completely by taking off the paper and bring it down to nice pine body. These were the lower end type of trunk at the time as makers offered a range of grades. You could attempt to save the paper but with missing sections it may not look as nice. Give it a good cleaning with soap water and a clean cloth to begin with. Hope this helps a bit..
