I remember cases very much like this as a kid. Could you show a close up of the handles on top of the lid. The old hardware is very distinctive. What kind of insulation does it have? You might can see what it is by looking at at the inside of the lid where the hinges are. The foam material should show some aging color. No labels or nameplates evidently?
