HippieArch…
(516 items)
Continuing my week of non-hippie era treasures. There aren't for everybody, but I love them. Original 1930s-1940s Baltimore Movie Theatre Lobby Display Portraits by John Kilduff. I bought an archive from his grandchildren who discovered these after his death. These were cut out from the large hand painted displays that in the Golden Age of Movies would be in theatre lobbies in the larger cities. Amazing that any survive to this day. He apparently would use these as an aid in future paintings of the actors.
These are great...like Pop Art...in fact I guess things like this are the origins of Pop Art...Andy Warhol would have loved them...
Very nice colored drawings of some classic old time movie stars, I recognize all the actors - James Stewart, Cagney, Wm Powell and Bogart, but not the lady
My list is different, Stewart, Carole Lombard, ?, David Niven, Bogart. Great post.
You hippies are always stirring up controversy ! LOL !
Very cool collection :)
Loved the comments thank you. The lady with Cagney is a favorite but I will admit I didn't recognize her either - Loretta Young (I know from the movie Taxi).
This was fun Hippie, now that I look again, Stewart did have blue eyes, must be another actor, there are several potentials from that period, I think. Loretta Young could really change her look with her hair color, here is another one of her movies.

Nice trip down memory lane. Thanks.
keramikos - WOW - you nailed it. That is the photo the artist used - funny, you think he only had B&W photos, so I imagine sometimes he might be off with eye and hair colors. Thanks for your help.
