Haeger Potteries opened in 1852. In 1934 they hired Royal Arden Hickman to design art ware. He was chief designer from 1938-1944. Items produced under him during these six years are labeled “Royal Haeger”. This splatter colored planter is not marked right now. It’s label lost at some point in its 75 odd years of life. I was able to identify this piece from finding on the internet an exact copy of this design that still had its original Royal Haeger label. But the color was solid.
Lovely planter, sort of cornucopia shaped
Thanks Newfld, I agree about the cornucopia look. Those colors pop, my wife thinks the color splatter is a little too much. I think every room should have a item that screams excitement.
That’s a hobbiest glaze that was popular in the late 60s early 70s - definitely not a Haeger glaze. Haeger may have sold a few out of production molds to another company that reproduced them, or sold green ware, to the hobbiest industry.
Art.pottery , I agree the colors have a more of a 6os or 70s feel. Haeger selling their excess molds to other companies, might be right. I did find other pieces with the same splatter colors, but of cause none of them were marked. Do I get credit for a half Royal Haeger piece?
