I just bought this trunk from a woman a few days ago. I have no information about it except that she was selling it for a friend who had to be put in assisted living. I can’t find any stamp or identification on it. I wasn’t wondering if anyone could help me out and possible tell me the brand or type of trunk this is. Age? Make? Thanks! It is covered with canvas. Then has metal on it with wood slates.
I would say mid 1880's barrel top trunk, without a label or distinguishing hardware, impossible to say for sure who the maker was. It has nice cast hardware patented by C. A. Taylor in October of 1877, I believe the #2 lid latches are also Taylor, patented around 1882, 83 or so, missing the tray and upper lid divider, you can see the line where it was, had a door on the left and a small box under the lithograph of the lady. Looks to be in good shape, if it were mine I would cut off the canvas and give the wood a light sanding, sand and stain the hardwood slats and clean the metal a bit and clear coat it. greendog.
