Each nail measures approx 2” in length. Looks to be made of brass. It has letter and numbers

When I would snowshoe the mts behind me now and agian I would run in to brass tags on trees held by brass nails ...the tage gave the longitude and latitude and the name of the paper company that owned the track of land,,,. and the numbers on the nails had numbers telling who the survey fella was..this might be one ...good luck
lol then agian could be used to make shutters ,or something made out of wood ....smiling...

Oops I guess not. Thought they were Date Nails. Still possible that they are some sort of date nail.
I've seen these (or something very similar) on telephone poles. They simply identified the pole and corresponded to a map used by power company repairmen.
