This seems to be idea that didn't catch on, a steam iron with a separate water reservoir. Note on the box to the left of the happily ironing housewife the water reservoir can be seen hanging on the wall. A thin rubber tube carries the water from the reservoir to the iron. Mine is missing the reservoir and the rubber hose is a jumble of dried out rubber pieces. The iron does work, luckily it can work wet or dry.
The handle is Bakelite and it is quite stylish. Seems to have the art deco styling popular at the time. Style is good. Modern irons seem to have no style. The most recent probably are computerized and can be controlled from your phone. OK I do not actually know that.

I recall our Sunbeam iron in the 60s didn't have water at all. Mum always sprinkled it on from an old Orbells soft drink bottle with a yellow plastic sprinkler head pushed on. Some memories remain very clear....
This must be a premium model!

Great vintage Sunbeam iron fort, looks quite heavyweight - they made them so much heavier yrs ago, but that pressed out the wrinkles better

My granny and aunts had some old irons that were deco looking. But I've never seen a reservoir type before, very unique.

Thank you very much racer4four. I sprinkled with a little cub of water. I just picked up another iron which hopefully works.

Thank you very much Thomas. It is easy to have them fall. Just step on the cord.
