This 4 1-2"H x 6"W amber glass camel was titled the Camel Lying Down and made by the LE Smith Glass Co in 1971 for the Shriners organization (note emblem on both sides of neck). It also came in clear crystal and cobalt blue.

My best glass compliments are always from you Karen, if you like it I must be doing something right! Thanks my friend
Phil I'm totally delighted you like this camel, this is one of those rare occasions I got a classic piece at a bargain price. Many thanx for your terrific compliments
Haha Thomas, thanks for my smile today! Weren't Camel cigs the unfiltered type, they were really strong - someone in my family must have smoked them as I remember the packs
See Judy, we think alike - I appreciate pretty glass pieces in any form, but for myself, glass animals just have more personality and I like the various colors too. Thanks for the insightful comment & compliments
Lauren what beautiful imagery, now I can picture this camel on golden desert sands, many thanks for the super compliment

Hey Jennie, I was just reading a short article about a special glass camel by Smith this afternoon, written by Tom Felt, who was looking for more examples, he is part of the executive of the West Virginia American Glass Museum and the editor of All About Glass. You mind if I email him your link to this post, he will find it very interesting I think. Thanks for posting.
Hi truthordare, yes of course please send the link to this post to the man from the WV American Glass Museum with my compliments, I have relied heavily on catalog reprints from his museum for many of my posts they've been an enormous help. Please tell him I got the info on my Smith camel from a great book called Glass Animals by Dick & Pat Spencer
Thanks so much for the kind love Mary and truthordare, I appreciate your thoughtfulness
Thanks Jenni, sorry for the typos....lol
They keep creeping in there and I don't capture them all. OK, will email him the link and he will read our comments about this one. His find was a 12 inches long camel, much like yours with the Smith mark from the 1920-30s.
Your's is more detailed, otherwise very much alike pose and the opening on the back. Regards, Lisa
opps, yours does not have an opening on the back, its the darker glass of the bumps that make it look like there is at an angle. :-)
You're welcome Lisa, I hope Mr Felt finds this interesting, sounds like his camel is an antique beauty
Truly glad you enjoyed this glass camel Anna, really appreciate the kind love and thoughtfulness
