I’m looking to identify a brand or approximate year for this piece. The faucet is labeled Kohler. Under the sink are three “tags” attached that have the numbers 6 23 30 and there’s is a 7 or L in a different location under the sink. The pedestal has the number 34 plus a handwritten “14#”.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Kohler is a brand name, new.
The faucets being marked Kohler simply means someone replaced the faucets when the old ones wore out. New faucets in an old sink. These were made in a couple different designs. Some could be wall mounted without the pedestal. Some had holes under the front side to accommodate legs as well as being mounted to the wall. Others like this one required the pedestal. Your sink doesn't have wall or leg fittings. The ones I am familiar with were made in Hartford, Connecticut and the markings on this don't ring a bell. The answer to your puzzle is in the numbers but finding the foundry to match them up may be impossible.
This sink would have originally been mounted with a cast iron bracket attached to the floor inside the pedestal, holding a steel rod up through the 'U' shaped slots in the pedestal and underneath the sink basin, all secured together with threads and a nut at the top. I'd guess its age might be in the 1920's-30's range...?
My cast iron tub and sink both have numbers made into them similar to yours. The man who refinished them for me was able to explain what they all meant.
I suggest you check your area for someone who refinished vintage cast iron tubs/sinks-they should be able to help you.
Looking closer at the faucet/drain hardware, it does kinda look to me like they could be original to the fixture...if that's true, I'd amend my age guess to include the 40's. Kohler is indeed (and always has been, since way back then) a current manufacturer of plumbing fixtures including both sinks and faucet hardware.
Thank you so much everyone, for the information!
Mst common sinks at that time were American Standard. My guess is 6 23 30 is June 23, 1930 which was probably mfg. date and not sold till after 1934 which was probably when the pedestal was made. Just a guess.
